- Use eclipse glasses or handheld solar viewers compliant with the ISO 12312-2 international safety standard.
- Regular sunglasses — even very dark ones — are not safe for viewing the Sun.
- Inspect filters before use; discard any that are scratched, punctured, or torn.
- During the brief totality phase of a total solar eclipse only, it is safe to look with the naked eye — the moment any bright Sun reappears, filters go back on.
- Annular and partial eclipses have no safe naked-eye phase. Keep filters on at all times.
- Lunar eclipses are always safe to view with the naked eye.
- Do not look at the Sun through a camera, telescope, or binoculars without a purpose-built solar filter on the front lens.
